It was a fantastic day on Saturday for the first of two power boat racing events on Lake Windermere. The Lake District National Park Authority passed an exemption to the 10mph speed limit again this year to the Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club to put on these two events, one in June and other at the end of season in September.
It was a busy day on Lake Windermere as a whole with the cross lake swim taking place in the morning, a 1.2km course (if you swim in a straight line!) and then the power boat racing in the afternoon. The images speak for themselves as to the extremely lucky day all that took part experienced.
And with the stunning weather, Windermere Marina Village was buzzing with activity with boats coming in and out, filling up at the new diesel fuel station and self catering guests making the most of the sunshine sitting out on the balconies. It was a great way see out the last weekend of June.
The next power boat race will be taking place on Saturday 26 September. Accommodation at Windermere Marina Village self catering cottages can be booked via https://www.windermeremarinavillage.co.uk and 3 night weekends or full week stays are available.
Letting someone else do the driving, what could be better when having a holiday or short break in the Lake District? A high number of people choose to drive to the Lake District but why not let someone else do the driving during the stay and cut down on pollution at the same time?
And this week it is all about the bus being national Catch the Bus Week. If you can’t remember the last time you caught a bus what better way to hop back on it than one of the open topped buses which operate on routes such as Bowness to Ambleside and Penrith to Glenridding. Experience fresh air on the top deck and get to enjoy the Lake District before you’ve even arrived at your destination (please note, and of no surprise, these open topped services run in accordance with the weather being fine!).
The roads in the Lake District can get very busy but the very knowledgeable and competent drivers take all the stress out of getting from A to B especially when you’re not used to the roads. In areas in the true heart of the Lake District like the Langdale Valley, it is still possible to travel by bus on the Langdale Rambler services which operates between Ambleside and Langdale 7 days a week (service 516 if you’re looking it up).
More bonuses of buses:
They cut down on a significant amount of carbon emissions compared with the same amount of passengers travelling individually by car.
You can have a post walk pint or glass of wine with lunch when taking the bus in one of the many Lake District inns.
Add parking fees into the mix along with fuel and a family ticket or couple take the bus makes better money sense.
You can combine bus with bike travel as backed and promoted the the GoLakes Travel programme. Due to demand, there are now more regular bike bus services in the South Lakes than ever meaning the ultimate and super green combination of cycling and public transport can be enjoyed.

Summer is officially here and the Tebay Services Hotel just off the M6 between Kendal and Penrith are doing everything possible to fill the hotel full of sunshine as well.
Whether guests have been stuck in the car on a long journey or are staying at the hotel for walking, cycling and sightseeing, the new range of beverages available in the lounge bar are sure to quench plenty of thirsts this summer.
Recently a number of Lake District produced spirits have been introduced at the bar including Langton’s Gin of which a crisp G & T epitomises summer. But as so many of the food and drink critics recommend, don’t skimp on the quality of the tonic or mixer. When a beverage is only made up of two components it makes sense really. Luckily now there is now a new wave of tonics and mixers available now to keep up with the UK’s gin loving revolution. Always a business that leads in artisan food and drink products, the team at Tebay Services Hotel have created three delicious pairings.
Firstly, gin with Fentimans Mandarin & Seville Orange Jigger. A particularly good match for Bedrock Gin and its notes is the Belvoir Elderflower Presse and finally the super fruity Belvoir Raspberry Lemonade is proving a great hit with Langton’s Gin. But of course each of these mixers are excellent on their own and are a welcome change from the standard soft drinks available in most bars and pubs.
Why not book a room this summer and feel refreshed courtesy of the Tebay Services Hotel just of the M6 motorway and especially with the extremely refreshing summer deal of just £89 per room B&B based on 2 people sharing when booking 7 days of more in advance. The big fat juicy worm rate is still evident for new customers in some business sectors. Despite a client being loyal to a particular company for years, for example an electricity supplier, a new customer can sign up and receive a better rate.
Enticing new customers to any business is important but why do so many forget their long standing clients and customers, ones that have been with them for years, have used their services up tine times, continue to purchase goods from them?
Thankfully more and more businesses are understanding the need to reward those loyal customers for it is those that keep coming back and that require no advertising, all the need is to feel wanted and special.
Applegarth Villa Hotel in Windermere are doing just this for their past guests this Autumn and Winter. The offer went out yesterday in the form of a newsletter to past guests who have registered an email and can be viewed here http://us6.campaign-archive2.com/?u=0b2848e87c62380665c6dafcb&id=e297ea20f9&e.
